The North York Moors
The North York Moors is one of the largest expanses of heather moorland in the entire UK, and remarkably it covers 554 square miles! Despite its size, the population of the area is only 25,000 people, which shows you just how underpopulated the area is, and how much of the land is purely moor land. The area is absolutely fascinating, and for any walkers it is an absolute haven. There is so much history here, and with over 700 sites regarded as scheduled ancient monuments, it is an important archaeological site indeed.
